A lot of kids that have ADD or ADHD in public schools are having problems because the teachers have labeled them as trouble makers since the start.
Teachers look at kids that talk a lot, are hard to get to sit still or constantly playing with things as though they are just trouble.
Your child is not a trouble maker, and they have a condition that literally means that their brains are wired differently than other kids. Children with the condition can thrive and succeed in school with the right program.
Children with it tend to get restless when they are bored. This happens in class a lot when the material is not being taught to them in an effective way.
Kids with this affliction tend to learn more effectively when they are visually stimulated. The will get more out of a 30 minute video that is entertaining and informative than they will from two weeks in a traditional classroom.
Children with ADD or ADHD also have racing thoughts when they don’t have anything to do. The more inactive they are, the more restless they get, and it snowballs until they can’t take it anymore.
Kids who suffer from this have to keep their minds active. When their needs are not met, the more their minds will race and the more difficult it becomes for them to control themselves.
Remembering that kids with ADD and ADHD are not necessarily bad kids. Their condition just requires a little specialized attention and focused education.
